METHODOLOGY AND SCOPE

What the timer measures. How it works.

Candelr calculates the time until a scheduled candle boundary or the next market opening. It combines your device's time with a regular-session calendar for U.S. stocks and ETFs.

The time comes from your device

A local reference

Candelr reads your device's current time. It does not query a time server, receive market quotes, or connect to your broker. If your device's clock is fast or slow, the countdown will be too.

Calculation from absolute time

On each update, it calculates the difference between the candle boundary and the current time. It does not subtract a second from a running counter. When a tab becomes visible again, it recalculates using the time at that moment.

The reading is displayed in whole seconds, rounding the remaining time up. The browser controls when it can render each update; this method does not guarantee activity while the device is asleep.

Candle alignment

All examples use New York time (ET). Each interval's start and end are limited to that day's session.

Candle boundaries used by Candelr
TimeframeFirst intervalFollowing intervals
5m09:30–09:3509:35–09:40, every 5 minutes
15m09:30–09:4509:45–10:00, every 15 minutes
30m09:30–10:0010:00–10:30, every 30 minutes
1h09:30–10:0010:00–11:00, then on each full hour

On 1h, the first candle lasts 30 minutes. This is Candelr's convention; it does not mean an automatic match with every platform. Compare your chart's session and boundaries before using the countdown as a reference.

New York time and daylight saving time

The calculation uses the America/New_York time zone and its daylight saving changes. It does not assume a constant time difference from your location. Opening remains at 09:30 ET, even when the equivalent time where you are changes.

Outside the session or calendar coverage

When the session is closed, it looks for the next scheduled opening. If the date or next opening falls outside the available calendar, it shows the relevant notice and does not invent a countdown. Years after 2028 require an update.

What is outside the calculation

  • Trading halts and unscheduled closures: the timer does not receive these events and may keep counting according to the scheduled hours.
  • Futures, cryptocurrencies, premarket, and after-hours: their sessions are not part of this calendar.
  • Market data and execution: Candelr does not know prices, volume, orders, or the actual moment when your data provider publishes a candle.
  • Platform synchronization: selecting the same timeframe does not verify that an external chart uses the same boundaries.

What has been checked

The local review on October 28, 2026 recorded 411 engine assertions: 33 cases run in the New York, Tokyo, and Honolulu time zones. The cases cover candle boundaries, sessions, holidays, daylight saving changes, and the end of calendar coverage.

The floating window passed 35 checks in Chromium, including a native opening, settings synchronization, closing, and reopening. The hidden source-page scenario was tested with controlled visibility and clock injection; it does not demonstrate operation while the system is asleep.

These tests cover Candelr's behavior in that environment. They do not certify other browsers, physical devices, or alignment with brokers or charting platforms.
